The Sweet Briar Promise outlines our distinctive approach for providing meaningful, enduring education for women. It includes:

Promoting Academic and Community Engagement (PACE) Scholarships

Sweet Briar College, with the help of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, has created Promoting Academic and Community Engagement (PACE) Scholarships to recognize new, enrolling students who have completed significant voluntary community service prior to enrolling at Sweet Briar. The PACE Program at Sweet Briar encourages the merging of classroom experiences with service activities, and aims to provide well-trained student volunteers who can offer "expert service" to help solve real problems, both while in college and post-college. If you have been engaged in community service while in high school, we invite you to apply for this scholarship.

Sweet Briar College will award three $1,000 scholarships per year to new, enrolling students. The scholarships are renewable for each of your four years at Sweet Briar, provided you remain in good academic standing and continue your practice of community engagement. This scholarship can be added on top of other merit scholarships awarded by Sweet Briar.

PACE Scholarship recipients also will be given the first opportunity to apply for one of two summer stipend scholarships of $3,250 (PACE Summer Scholarships). The scholarships are awarded annually to returning students, allowing them to complete summer service without regard to financial concerns. Students will work full time at a local service agency for eight weeks and write a reflective essay about their experience.

Application Process

Students should apply for admission to Sweet Briar College and complete the PACE Scholarship application by February 1.
