Apply: First-Year Students

Application Deadline

Sweet Briar has elected to discontinue its Early Decision application deadline in an effort to be more responsive to applicants.

We invite students to apply for admission as early as Sept. 1 of their senior year, and pledge to notify applicants of our admission decision no later than one month after an application becomes complete (see list of required application materials below). Students will still have until May 1 to submit an enrollment deposit, although we encourage students for whom Sweet Briar is their first choice to submit an enrollment deposit at any point following acceptance.

We will maintain an application deadline of Feb. 1, and all applications received by Feb. 1 will receive full consideration for available merit scholarships. Except for the CLIMB engineering scholarship and the JYF and JYS scholarships, there is not a separate application required to be considered for a merit scholarship.

Required Credentials

• Completed application form
• Essay
• $40 non-refundable application fee (payable online) or appropriate fee waiver
• Official high school transcript including senior-year courses
• Recommendation from school guidance counselor
• Recommendation from an 11th- or 12th-grade teacher, as defined on the recommendation form
• Official SAT I or ACT scores
